I arrived at the university of Orléans (France) this morning, parked my car, studied at the library, and then wanted to ask a question to one of my teachers, thus made my way towards his office, which is on the first floor. To access the first floor, you have two staircases. I chose the one my right and began to climb up the stairs when, suddenly, a woman stopped me.
"Excuse me, miss, but where on earth are you going?" she asked.
First, I wanted to tell her that it was none of her buisness but eventually decided to be nice. After all, it was only 10 o'clock a.m.
"I'm going to see Mr. Ben Winsworth in his office." I politely replied.
"Well, you can't! This is the administrative staircase; none of the students are allowed to climp it up! There's another staircase for you at the other end of the ground floor!"
I blinked. Geez, some people really like to complicate things! A staircase!! Had it been some private room, I would have understood, but a staircase!! Come on, it's just like saying "Hey, don't you put on a toe on those stairs because they are mine! I booked them!" And because this was just so absurd, I started to laugh. Better to laugh than to weep! The damn woman asked me what was so funny. And I told her...
"No kidding! You've got nothing better to do than to check which staircase people climb up?"
Strange, strange world.

I spent the second semester of 2008-2009 at Newcastle, and I miss it so much! Luckily I still have my Newcastle United cap!
