A Gentle Soul by Bintavivi
A Gentle Soul
So................. I know, it's been a long time since I last submitted any kind of art here, and I do regret it. Time is a fickle thing.

However, that doesn't mean I have forgotten about DA or (and that's even more important) about the so very kind and amazing people I have "met" here (so to speak). I still love you all guys  (special mention for Contraltissimo, Avannak, ch4rms, masterrohan and PurrfectlyUnique)

Anyway, here's another portrait of one of my Clifden friends (you know, Clifden, the place in Ireland where I used to live).

He's an amazing guitarist, a potter and, as the title suggests it, a very gentle soul.

The portrait was done using graphite pencils, a balck marker and charcoals.
Teacher's Patience by Bintavivi
Teacher's Patience
Heu guys!

Long time no seen! :)

So...this is not exactly a piece of art but I thought I'd share it nonetheless. This is an idea that I had a couple of weeks ago.

As an English teacher, I work in a secondary school and so keeping a cool head at all times is really important. However, I am only human and sometimes - some days - I may be less patient than others for a number of reasons, like being sick or simply more tired than usual.

I don't like yelling on my pupils. I don't think it is neither good for yourself nor necessary/productive for the kids. Sometimes, you have no choice but to raise your voice, but it has to remain sometimes.

So I told myself, you know, "What can I do to show my pupils when they're starting to really get on my nerves?"

And I came up with this. I printed it, and now I put it on the white board with four black magnets at the beginnin of each class. I use a red magnet - that I can gradually move around the semicircle from left to right. From left to right only, because once my patience is lost, it's lost.
Each class starts wth a level a patience of 100% - unless the previous class really pissed me off, but that's very rare.

And the pupils actually do regulate themselves, and I haven't had to shout once in two weeks. So if there are fellow teachers around here, feel free to tuse this if you'd like to. =D
  • Mood: Optimism
  • Listening to: Socks in the Frying Pan (I swear it exists!)
  • Reading: The Casual Vacancy (J.K. Rowling)
  • Watching: Castle (season 6)
  • Drinking: sparkling water
Well, yeah. Too, because :iconavannak: recently posted a journal entry in which she stated that she was, in fact, still alive!!

So...where should I begin? It's been more than two years since I last wrote a journal entry here. Although, I have to say, I kept visiting DA on an almost daily basis.

I am now a fully qualified teacher and, well, being a teacher has eaten up a LOT of my time. But now I am finally starting to own enough documents and resources - and, well, experience too, let's be honest - so I don't have to start everything from scratch over and over again.

I am still drawing and writing, mind you, only not as often as I did before - certainly not as often as I would like to.

Maybe I should also wish you all a belated happy new year? Yeah. That would be nice. Happy 2014, everyone!

On a side note, I'm still in love with How To Train Your Dragon, and I am SO excited about the upcoming sequel!! :onfire: -figured that emoticon was the right one to use, given the context - and I can't wait to watch it! I do pray the Heavens, though, that I'll be able to find a cinema that will show the movie in its original version - with the original voices because I watched the trailer with the French voices - just out of curiosity, mind you - and, well, let's not go there. At all.
Me still being in love with HTTYD also means that my fic Beyond the Realms will be updated (hopefully in the next couple of days).

Mmm...Oh, yes, I'm still suffering from OCD (Obsessive Castle Disorder), too! Season 6 has been amazing so far and I can't believe we're almost at the end of it already!

I'm still planning to move to Ireland for good ASAP (things are slowly but surely moving in that direction). Will be going back in April for the Easter holidays, too, which is very, very good news! :D

I guess that's about it for now. I'll probably update this entry if something else crosses my mind. :)

Lots of love to everyone and please rest assured that I haven't forgotten about you. I really haven't. :huggle:

PS: I stumbled about a quite hilarious Tumblr post about Disney's Frozen (which I did not like, by the way) where someone wrote down the silent comments that went through their head while watching the movie. However, I have yet to read whether someone shared my own thoughts when Prince Hanz was introduced or not, so I'm going to write it down here.

Prince Hans = the youngest of thirteen royal siblings.

My thoughts: "13 siblings? And he's the thirteenth? 12 brothers? Auburn hair, green eyes?...Seriously, Disney? Did you just go there? Did you just take me for an idiot? Why, thank you for having ruined what remains of the movie in one sentence!"

(Don't take this too seriously, though. I took my niece with me to the movies. She enjoyed it, which was my main purpose. I just found it hilarious that I basically knew what was going to happen as soon as Prince Hans's family was mentionned.)

And then I heard "Hey [Connie], do you want to watch The Winged Migration with us?"

And then I went.... WAIT a second.... and jumped on DeviantArt, and found your pic, and checked the link.... and wouldn't you know it, it was from the selfsame movie!

So I watched it, and it was lovely, and I thought of you so hard.  :meow:

Hope you're having a beautiful day, my friend!  :aww:

Oh, WOW, I am so HAPPY that you got to watch that movie!!! =D

And I was going to say that I was flattered that you remembered this piece of music, that you remembered me and how you had discovered it, but actually, I am more than flattered. I am HUMBLED and I cannot tell you how much this little message of yours warmed my heart. Thank you so much! :tighthug: :glomp:

I hope you're having a lovely day, too, dearest desert rat of mine. :glomp:
