PerfectAstrid considered herself to have a high threshold for pain. She'd been scraped, scratched, cut, bruised, sprained all in the process of training to become the warrior she expected to be. She felt the pain but for the most part blocked the feeling. Physical pain was not fun, but she didn't try to spend too much time feeling it and letting it bog her mind down when there were more important things to worry about in life.
But for the first time in her life the pain was overwhelming, and she couldn't suppress her screaming. There was no ailment, none except to get it over with.

I have not read the books by Cressida Cowell, but I have read the different characters' descriptions, and I came up with the idea of drawing little Hiccup with his grandfather -on his mother's side- Old Wrinkly. Apparently, he is a soothsayer, a doctor, a wise man, and the one who teaches Latin to Hiccup.

So, here, Old Wrinkly has been comforting his grandson and tells him not to worry, and foreshadows a great destiny awaits for him.

D'aww, I didn't even know about Old Wrinkly until your fic 'Beyond The Realms'. I thought he was a fan character until I looked up more info on the book and I found him listed!

Woulda been nice if he was included in the movie, too.

I think someone (from Dreamworks Animation staff) said he'd been replaced by Elder Gothi. Personally, I would have loved to see Hiccup interact with his grandfather.

Yeah, me too.

It would have been nice to see another person believe in Hiccup besides Astrid, who came to believe in him and even love him. She was the driving force behind regaining his confidence and spirit.

IF a trilogy comes out and in the last one, they get married, they'll make quite a formidable pair. Not that they don't' already...

And grandparents are fun to draw

I love the bond that exists between grandparents and grandchildren, so full of love that it transcends the generation that 'separates' them (parents!).

Hah, how cute! Funny, I thought I was the only one who did any art of Old Wrinkly. Interesting way you've imagined Old Wrinkly. I like the touching sort of grandfather-grandson this piece has.
