"It wasn't weakness, but his overwhelming sense of mercy for living things. Mercy was not a bad thing—he had once let a dragon live, a dragon he knew he was supposed to kill and now he couldn't have ever imagined life without the fire beasts. One act of mercy had changed an entire way of life for everyone—for the better. He'd even let the wretch live who could have killed his own father.
Because what was the point of revenge? It wouldn't change anything—just one more act of violence begotten by violence with only the fleeting consolation of vengeance. Hiccup had yet to be angry enough to kill someone—and doubted he ever would.
You can't change what has happened, his father's voice reminded him, You live life until the end all based on your choices.

The sun was sinking.
Decisions, Hiccup, decisions.
Further yet behind the ocean.
One act of mercy can change an entire way of life for everyone—for the better."
Again, for (hey, the other one was just a WIP, so it doesn't really count )
And anyway, she just spoiled me rotten today!
This illustration is based on the final chapter of the final part of her Seasonal Series, The Turning Autumn (which is why I added the leaves). The chapter is entitled "The Trials of Leadership".
This is the exact moment Hiccup decides to spare...a traitor. (Hey, not everyone has read the fic, so I'm still not spoiling the traitor's identity!)

Yay for hiccup's beard!!! I have tried numerous times to draw facial hair and *cough cough* they failed miserably each time. But you captured them perfectly. This is an awesome picture!!!
mine kinda looks like a deranged porcupine thats floating magically in front of the victim's face. wait a minute, did i say...VICTIM? i mean...character.
This is beautiful! I love the colors (Autumn rocks!) and the strong shading adds a lot of drama/tension to the scene. I also like your outfit design for Hiccup- nice work!
(I also have trouble drawing facial hair...
Thank you
Shading is one of the things I love most about drawing.
